Catalogue of an exhibition at Beijing's Museum of History comprising the landmark sensational first showing of the highly-important find of exquisite Buddhist statuary excavated in 1996 at the site of Longxing Temple in Qingzhou, Shandong province. The 80 or so statues shown date predominantly from the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei and Northern Qi periods. Many retain paint and gilding. The discovery has led to a reconsideration of Buddhist sculpture of the Six Dynasties period, it now being recognized as a pinnacle of Chinese Buddhist art. Well-photographed. Four pages text, caption list and captions in English. Main text in Chinese. Includes pieces not exhibited more recently in the West. This catalogue now extremely hard to find. Bump to corner, otherwise fine.
