Highly interesting record of the finds found in the underground crypt of the pagoda of Ciyun Temple located in the town of Ganzhou in the south of Jiangxi province in China. The crypt was sealed during the Northern Song dynasty. This relatively small cache of objects includes exceptionally rare Northern Song colour paintings on paper, wooden statuary and a sutra or two. The paintings are (unsurprisingly) Buddhist in nature but some also show people, presumably donors to the building of the pagoda. All illustrated in full page colour and much close-up detail shown. Text in Chinese,
Subjects: Buddhist Art Painting
