Stitched, in 6 blue cloth cases. GBP 900.00 Date taken from the preliminary material in numbered fascicle one. Originally published in an imperial edition in 1716, this is a newly-carved edition in reduced format, imitating the Wuyingdian version. This copy is complete and in very good condition for this type of material. The stitching and covers to the fascicles are probably later. Preface by the Kangxi emperor in red characters. The dictionary contains a total of 47,035 characters, of which as many as 20,000 are graphic variants. The first fascicle (the 'shoujuan') in this set is a guide the so-called 'qie' spellings used in the dictionary. The 37th numbered fascicle completes the main dictionary. Numbered fascicle 38 is a a supplement with the title 'Kangxi Zidian Beikao' and fascicle 39 is another with the title 'Kangxi Zidian Buyi'. Wilkinson, p. 64.
