260 paintings were selected from the imperial collection as well as from the collection of the owner of Yu Chen (Youzheng) Book Company, a Mr Dih Ping Tsze (Di Dengzi), studio name Pingdengge. Also a number of works from other collections, for example Tao Zhai. The paintings date from the Tang to the Qing. Volume One covers the Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties, Volume Two the Ming and Qing. The colour plates, particularly the colour woodblock prints, are beautifully done and focus on the Tang, Song and Yuan masterpieces. The 13 woodblock prints are in volume One and show Song paintings. Important and rare work. Collotype preface dated 1909. A date of 1934 at the back of the work. One page introduction and one page advertising afterword in English. Plate captions in Chinese and English. Slight wear and marks plus light soiling to the yellow silk covers of the two volumes. Fine internally, some slight soiling and mottling The cloth case in poor condition.
