YU0YH2
Yu Ren and Yu Jie: YUAN HENG QUANTU LIAO NIU MA TUO JI. (A Compendium of Treatments for Oxen, Horses and Camels). 元亨全圖療牛馬駝經。喻仁 喻傑 著 光緒已丑新鐫 三義堂藏板. N.p., 1889. 6 juan and an accompanying volume of illustrations in two parts (shang and xia) bound in 3 volumes. Numerous b/w woodblock illustrations. 25x15 cm. Stitched. Cloth case with much wear.
GBP 400.00
Guangxu provincial printing. Dated 1889. Sanyi Tang edition with recut blocks of an illustrated work first published in the Ming dynasty (1608?) by two brothers Yu, whose courtesy names 'yuan' and 'heng' form part of the title. The works deals with traditional veterinary treatments and husbandry for three types of quadrupeds - oxen, horses and camels, the primary traditional draught animals of China . Numerous illustrations accompany. All text in Chinese. This work was obviously much used as a working reference, as the volume of illustrations, which would originally have been at the end of the work, has been placed at the beginning and bound together with the first volume containing juan 1 and 2. The work is in a much used condition with extensive wear, tear and loss to the first few pages of the volumes of illustrations. The paper used is brittle and there is chipping, wear and some loss throughout the volumes and separation of folded leaves into individual pages. The printing is generally a good impression. Ink annotations on covers of volumes. The original cloth-covered board case with much wear and no toggles. However, this is a very unusual and rarely-seen work and the first time we have handled it. Sold with all faults.
