GBP 40.00 Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Louvre showing the rare suite of 16 superb engravings commissioned by Louis XV in honour of the battles and conquests of the Qianlong emperor in Central Asia. During the years 1767 to 1774, Charles Nicolas Cochin supervised their production in Paris. The plates were worked up by the leading engravers of the time from designs by Giuseppe Castiglione and his gifted team of Jesuit artists at the Court in Peking. The original copper plates and about one hundred sets of prints were sent to China, with only a few sets remaining in France. This exhibition shows the original drawings by Castiglione et al. together with the entire suite of engravings. Useful and detailed text in French.
