Catalogue of an exhibition held at Shenzhen Nanshan Museum in conjunction with the Art Institute of the Maijishan Cave Temple Complex. The caves are located near Maijishan in China's Gansu province and contain sculptures, carvings and murals dating from the Sixteen Dynasties onwards with its peak during the Northern Dynasties. The exhibits are all loaned from the Maijishan complex and include very fine Buddhist statuary from various periods with a focus on the Six Dynasties. There are also some reconstructed intact copies of (presumably damaged or removed) statuary and figurines. Also murals (and reproductions of murals) and rubbings of inscriptions on steles and reliefs. Illustrated throughout and with an informative near dual text in Chinese and English.
