Shenzhen Museum ed: XIANG YUN: TUOQIZHUMOLANGMA ZANGCHUAN FOJIAO YISHU JINGPIN. Propitious Clouds Holding Up the Mount Qomolangma : Select Artworks of Tibetan Buddhism. 祥雲 : 托起珠穆郎瑪藏傳佛教藝術精品. Beijing, 2017. 5, 291 pp. 271 pp. colour plates. Colour text plates. Two foldouts. 37x27 cm. Cloth.
GBP 225.00
Large and weighty catalogue of an excellent loan exhibition at the Shenzhen Museum showing extremely fine examples of Tibetan art from four prime institutions in Tibet - the Tibet Museum, the Potala Palace and the Norbulinka Summer Palace - all located in Lhasa, together with the Southeast Tibet Museum in Nyingchi City. Over 130 exhibits were shown, including tangkas, statuary, masks, musical instruments and ritual objects. The works date from the 13th to the 20th centuries, with much early material. Many of the objects never previously published or exhibited. Illustrated throughout with fine high-quality colour plates, many full page. Brief introductions and captions to plates in English. Main text in Chinese. Hard to obtain. It seems that the Shenzhen Museum is holding the stock.
Subjects: Bronzes Buddhist Art
