Rhee, Byung-chang: KANKOKU BIJUTSU SHUSEN. Masterpieces of Korean Art: Koryo Ceramics - Yi Ceramics. 韓國美術蒐選. Tokyo, 1978. 190; xv, 461; xv, 509 pp. 997 colour and b/w plates and illustrations. Text in English and Japanese. 3 vols. 31x23 cm. Half-leather. Cloth case.
GBP 400.00
Numbered edition of 2000 copies, of which only 500 were for commercial circulation. Monumental three-volume work on Korean ceramics, illustrating nearly 1,000 objects, much in colour. The first volume is a general history of Korean art, entirely in Japanese. The other two volumes are devoted (one volume each) to Koryo and Yi ceramics and in these volumes there are dual English and Japanese texts. The ceramics are superb and come from museum and private collections worldwide. Dr Rhee Byung-chang is himself a renowned collector of Korean ceramics, his superb collection now in the Museum of Oriental Ceramics in Osaka. His discerning eye is evident in the quality of the objects illustrated (many in multiple views) and with good descriptions. Extremely scarce.
