Postcard album. GBP 800.00 Large compilation of early 20th century postcards. A focus on north-east China showing places under Japanese occupation in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Includes much photography of Port Arthur, Dalian, the Yalu River, Changchun, Fushun, Harbin and Shenyang. Includes the industrial and agricultural achievements of Japanese occupation, new buildings and monuments of a military theme, together with general views of sites and scenes in and around these cities. There is also photography of the cities of Ji'nan and Qingdao (including folding colour panoramas) in Shandong province. Includes a good number of postcards showing the Wuhan area and Shanghai, some in colour. Also a number showing people and scenes of daily life. The postcards nearly all have captions in English and Japanese naming the sight or scene. 392 postcards in total. The postcards measure 9x14 cm and presumably produced in areas under Japanese occupation or in Japan. Subjects: Photography Item 611 in List 205.
