Blue silk brocade covered boards with some wear and rubbing. GBP 5,000.00 A beautifully-painted album by the Japanese painter, Sato Shi, known as Baiu, who flourished in the mid-19th century. Baiu was a student of the well-known painter, Tani Buncho. The album contains, on the side with the cover inscription, 5 introductory pages of title and calligraphy and then 13 double page paintings in colour measuring 11x16.5 cm. On the reverse, the album shows 4 pages of calligraphy and then 7 double page paintings each followed by a double page of calligraphy. The painting subject matter alternates between landscapes and flower & fruit paintings. A beautiful literati composition. One of the pages bears a date of 1875.
