The extraordinary Ordos Museum is located in the city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia. The name 'Ordos' has come to symbolise a type of small bronze (in particular depicting animals) made by nomadic steppe peoples in early times. Not surprisingly, the Museum has a superb collection of such bronzes and other Ordos-related and 'steppe' material. This work shows a fine selection of Ordos bronzes, the majority dating from a time that equates to the Warring States period in China. There is also earlier Neolithic pottery, some gold-plated Ordos bronzes and other small gold objects, Han dynasty bronzes and later ceramics. Illustrated throughout in colour. One page introduction in English, otherwise Chinese text only.
Subjects: Archaeology Bronzes
