Mizuno Seiichi: BRONZE AND STONE SCULPTURE OF CHINA: FROM THE YIN TO THE T'ANG DYNASTY. Chugoku no Chokoku: SekiButsu KindoButsu. 中國の雕刻:石仏 金銅仏 。 水野清一 . Tokyo, 1960. 38 pp. English, 84 pp. Japanese text. 130 plates, 10 in colour, 153 text-figures. 32x26 cm. Cloth.
GBP 1,200.00
Important work by an erudite Japanese scholar on early Chinese sculpture from its beginnings through to the peak of the Tang dynasty. Most of the extremely fine sculptures illustrated were assembled for the Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Sculpture held at the Takashimaya Department Store in Tokyo in 1959. The sculptures came from museums and private collections in Japan. This work is thus in part a record of that exhibition, supplemented by illustrations of sculpture not exhibited but important in the context of the development of Chinese Buddhist sculpture. 38 pages of English text including list of plates. Main text in Japanese. Very scarce.
Subjects: Sculpture
