GBP 50.00 Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Millennium Art Museum in Beijing of National Treasures in two sections: Chinese archaeological finds and Chinese Buddhist art. The archaeological section comprised superb artefacts including some astonishing recent finds, particularly from the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huangdi. A life-size and lifelike bronze crane, life-size terracotta figures of an acrobat, rower and an official, a suit of armour carved from stone pieces with an accompanying stone helmet. There is also recent material from Yinxu, plus famous artefacts such as a jade burial suit. The Buddhist art section showed extremely fine material in gilt-bronze, bronze, stone plus a couple of sutras and paintings. A few of the Buddhist art exhibits were recent finds, including Qingzhou sculptures. The exhibition showed the finest material and was very diverse. Prior to its showing in Beijing, the exhibition had been in Japan at the Tokyo and Osaka National Museums. Brief captions in English, otherwise Chinese text only.
