Explores and reproduces an album of 93 'paper horses', woodblock prayer prints of Chinese gods, produced to be ritually burned at religious ceremonies and rites. The prints were made in the 1940s but represent a tradition stretching back hundreds of years. The history of Chinese woodblock printing is discussed, all 93 prints are illustrated and described, and biographies of the gods and spirits are given. A useful and enjoyable contribution.
