KALAQIN WANGFU BAO. (The Treasures of the Kalaqin Princes). 喀喇沁王府寶. Beijing, 2011. 214 pp. Colour plates throughout. 29x21 cm. Cloth.
GBP 85.00
The Kalaqin princedom was located in the Chifeng area of Inner Mongolia during the Ming and early Qing periods and then appears to have been absorbed at some point into one of the Eight Banners of the Manchu. This work shows an extremely fine selection of Chinese works of art - jade, rhinoceros horn carving, archers rings etc. which belonged to the ruling princes. All are illustrated in full colour, many in multiple views, and described. Extensive introductory text. It is unclear where these objects are held although, given that the work is published by the Forbidden City Press, they may well be in the Gugong Museum in Beijing. In Chinese.
