ZZKSC1 KO SEI CHOSHO. (The Resonance of Things Ancient). 古製徵證. Kyoto, 1902. Five folding albums, each with approximately 30 openings. Full page, indeed, double page original colour woodblock prints throughout each album. Loose insert sheet at front of volume 1. 5 vols. 25x18 cm. Orihon. GBP 2,000.00 The large majority of the colour woodblock illustrations are of ancient textiles in Japanese collections. Beautifully done - testament to the high level of accomplishment woodblock printers in Japan were achieving at the beginning of the 20th century. Published by Yamada Unsodo, the finest publisher of such works. Given the somewhat curious focus on ancient textiles, it is plausible to assume that this work was produced as a source of inspiration for textile and kimono designers. At that time a genre of textile books for kimono designs (zuancho) was emerging and this work may well have been produced in that spirit. All text in Japanese. In fine condition. Rare. Subjects: Illustrated Books Rare Books Item 77 in List 214. URL for this record: hanshan.com/?k/ZZKSC1.HTM Record produced by Hanshan Tang Books, www.hanshan.com. |
