Catalogue of a major exhibition at the Kyoto National Museum focussing on the period following the death of Kano Eitoku (1543-1590), the leader of the Kano school of painters. It centres on the subsequent period from 1596-1615, featuring masterworks of painting by Eitoku's survivors and successors. Traces the change in aesthetic taste from the dynamism and splendour of these works through to the more restrained tastes of the Tokugawa rulers. Illustrated throughout with wonderful paintings.
