London 1798. Translated and edited by Louis-Mathieu Langles. Accompanied by 52 black-and-white engraved plates, the majority engraved by S. Simn from illustrations by William Alexander, artist to the Embassy. The plates appear to be derived from Staunton's Atlas. All text in French. Generally a good copy. Contemporary half leather marbled boards with some wear and abrasion. Gilt to spine. Title and volume number of each volume in gilt contained within red leather cartouches with gilt surrounds.
