GBP 300.00 Qing dynasty Guangxu period reduced-size facsimile version of this late Ming (or possibly very early Qing dynasty) illustrated devotional work, known in full as the Guanyin Dashi Guanyin Cirong Wushisan Xianxiang Zan. The original work was truly representative of the superb woodcut illustration of the late Ming. One of the most famous late Ming picture albums of the Bodhisattva, Guanyin. This lithographic version also has fine detail to the images and texts. Published by the Foxue Shuju (Buddhist Bookshop) in Shanghai who produced a number of fine lithographic editions of earlier illustrated Chinese Buddhist works. Comprises an initial leaf giving the title and publisher's colophon. Thereafter follow 53 folded leaves, each with a full page black-and-white illustration and accompanying verses. Plus a final 54th illustration with extensive accompanying text. The final page is dated Guangxu 27 i.e. 1901. The blue covers with much wear and abrading. Creases to corners. Slight loss to top edge in one place. One leaf has a horizontal tear across the entire leaf. Slight waterstains in places. Stitching is very loose. Internally generally good. Priced accordingly.
