GGM252 - NEW BOOK
Gugong Museum ed: WENMING XIANFENG: LINGJIATAN WENHUA YUQI ZHAN. (A Vanguard of Culture: An Exhibition of Jades from the Lingjiatan Culture). 文明先鋒:凌家灘文化玉器展. Beijing, 2025. 461 pp. Full page colour plates throughout. Colour and b/w text plates. 38x26 cm. Wrappers.
GBP 180.00
Weighty catalogue of a fascinating exhibition at the Gugong Museum in Beijing showing Neolithic Chinese jades from the Lingjiatan culture that flourished long ago in Anhui province. An amazing 341 exhibits are shown, all illustrated in colour. The exhibits include a number of stone and pottery items, but it is jade that predominates. The majority are small, but are surprisingly sophisticated and demonstrate considerable artistic achievement and craftsmanship. Of particular note are the small human figures, ceremonial axe heads and amulets, but much else, if not all, of interest. Practically all the exhibits are shown near life-size, actual size or larger than life to allow full appreciation of detail. All text in Chinese.
Subjects: Jade Forbidden City
