Catalogue of an exhibition at the Gugong in Beijing that is testament to the virtuosity and skill of the craftsmen who worked in the palace workshops and elsewhere producing art objects for the Qing imperial court. The focus is on hanging screens that would have adorned the walls of palaces and halls in the Forbidden City. The exhibition is in four sections by theme: Picturesque Landscapes; A Multitude of Lives; Delightful Elegance; The Elegance of Brush and Ink. A total of 51 outstanding exhibits (some comprising pairs and groups) are illustrated in colour, many in multiple views (some foldouts) and showing close-up exquisite detail.
