Large and weighty catalogue of a marvellous exhibition held at the Gugong Palace Museum in Beijing examining the links, exchanges and cross-cultural influences engendered between the Chinese Emperors and the French Kings in the 17th and 18th centuries. A marvellous array of exhibits from the Forbidden City collection and from the Versailles and Trianon collections. Includes books, scientific instruments, ceramics, paintings, official gifts sent from one court to the other... and much more in other media. The ceramics of much interest in terms of demonstrating cross-cultural elements. Illustrated throughout and with near dual texts in Chinese and French.
This catalogue has proved hard to obtain as much of the print run was retained for official presentation.
Subjects: Foreigners in Forbidden City
