GBP 150.00 Catalogue of an exhibition held in the Shoukang Palace within the Forbidden City exploring the life and legacy of the Chongning Dowager Empress (1693-1777), the adored mother of the Qianlong emperor. The Shoukang Palace was her residence following Qianlong's accession and was a centre of power and influence thereafter until her death. The exhibition is in sections exploring aspects of her life and relationship with her son. Illustrated throughout with many superb imperial objects. Of particular note is the second volume which reproduces in full the four 'Wan Shou Tu' (Illustrations for Eternal Long Life) handscrolls painted by a number of court artists to commemorate the Empress's lavish 60th birthday celebrations and parades masterminded by her son, the emperor.
