GBP 250.00
A further two volumes covering an important and comprehensive exhibition on longquan celadons held in the Gugong Museum in Beijing in 2019.
In Volume III the trade in Longquan celadons is examined - within China, throughout Southeast Asia and beyond in Asia thanks to the Silk Road and maritime commerce. Includes examples from museums in Korea, Iran and elsewhere plus examples retrieved from early shipwrecks.
Volume IV explores the response of the artisans at Longquan to this overseas trade evaluated in terms of celadons produced to meet the demands of overseas markets. There is also examination of the imitations of longquan celadons done at other kilns in China.
Over 800 beautiful and interesting exhibits were loaned from numerous museums in China and abroad. Includes many previously-unpublished examples from the Gugong Museum's excellent collection shown for comparison alongside reconstructed examples excavated from the Longquan kilns. Illustrated throughout both volumes. List of contents, introductions, abstracts to essays and captions to plates in English. Main text in Chinese. An important contribution to the subject and an excellent visual study reference.
