Reduced-size lithographic reprint of a famous and copiously-illustrated work on ancient Chinese art, with hundreds of reproductions in sections illustrating bronzes, stone drums, porcelain tiles, mirrors etc. Includes rubbings and facsimiles of early inscriptions. Contains comprehensive descriptions with critical notes on selected pieces of ancient Chinese bronzes, stone and earthenware from the Shang dynasty onwards through the dynasties to the Yuan. Long used by Chinese scholars for the study of archaeology. All text in Chinese. The first woodblock edition was published in the first year of the Daoguang reign, 1821, (Daoguang yuan nian). A work that has been later reproduced in numerous editions due to its academic and cultural value - as here. Six parts in 24 volumes contained in two later cloth cases. All text in Chinese. Some wear, slight chipping and minor loss to covers. A number of title slips missing or fragmentary. Internally, generally clean.
 A work that has been used in keeping with its worth. Rare.
