DIYICI SHANG MATOU. (Going to the Port for the First Time). 第一次上碼頭. Shanghai, 1975, 15 pp. booklet plus 24 colour lantern slides. 8x11 cm. Paper plus loose slides.
GBP 60.00
Title slide plus 23 colour lantern slides comprising a propaganda story set in pre-liberation China of a poor rural lad, Wang Chungen, and his family, ousted by their cruel landlord and forced to go to Shanghai to seek food and a living. This lantern slide set tells of their trials and tribulations facing the dark side of Chinese life in Shanghai under the old regime. Propaganda that is implicit testament to how things have changed for the better under the Communists. The accompanying paper booklet has numbered text to be read out whilst the corresponding lantern slide is projected. Presumably meant as approved visual entertainment in the 1970s during the Cultural Revolution. Such lantern slide presentations were popular entertainment at the time in both cities and rural areas. Booklet in Chinese. The slides complete. Very scarce.
Subjects: Propaganda
