Denby, Jay; Hayter, H. W. G. illus: LETTERS FROM CHINA. and Some Eastern Sketches. London, n.d. (1911). 438 pp. 21 b/w illustrations, of which a number full page. 19x13 cm. Decorative cloth.
GBP 300.00
Letters from a British expatriate in Shanghai at the beginning of the 20th century. An easy read that gives insight into the somewhat surreal existence of foreigners in Shanghai at the time. Of note also are the cartoon-style illustrations by H. W. G. Hayter, then resident in the city and a satirical observer of both local and expatriate life. Works illustrated by Hayter are extremely scarce.
Subjects: Foreigners in Asia
