The first comprehensive survey of the cultural relics and heritage of the highly-important Buddhist site of Wutaishan in China's Shanxi province. These six volumes focus on statuary and sculpture in temples and religious sites throughout the Wutaishan complex. The first two volumes contain Tang statuary, volume 3 covers Song, Jin, Liao and Yuan material. Volume 4 entirely comprises Ming statuary. Volume 5 completes the extensive amount of Ming material and begins the survey of Qing statuary. Volume Six completes the chronological coverage by showing the remainder of the Qing statuary and a couple of early 20th century examples. Many of the temples' statuary systematically photographed for the first time. Illustrated throughout in colour (with many accompanying detailed line drawings) and well described. Of much value for the study and research of Buddhist art in China. Text in Chinese. Very hard to obtain.
