A fine work showing 108 maps of Beijing and the surrounding area, all from the collection of the National Library of China. The maps date from 1146 AD through to 1949 AD and include both Chinese and foreign maps pertaining to the city. Many of the early Chinese maps are woodblock-printed, other techniques including lithography, engraving, colour printed and hand-painted. All the maps are shown in their entirety and many with much close-up detail. Illustrated throughout in colour. Near dual texts including prefaces and detailed descriptions containing much interesting information in Chinese and English.
