A visual survey of Chinese silks from the earliest extant examples through to the near present day - a period of over 2000 years. The silks come from museum collections in China plus a few from private holdings. Illustrated throughout with many rare and interesting examples. Roughly a third of the illustrations show silks that are Ming dynasty or earlier, the earliest being Han dynasty. The larger proportion are Qing dynasty and material into the 20th century.
