Wu Qijun comp.; Lu Yinggu ed: ZHIWU MINGSHI TUKAO [WITH THE: TUKAO CHANGBIAN]. (An Illustrated Botanical Encyclopaedia). Beijing, 1993. 41; 39 ce in 16 han. 1714 b/w woodcut illustrations throughout the 1st 41 vols. 80 vols. 29x21 cm. Stitched, in cloth cases.
This is a faithful and accurate facsimile reprint produced to the actual size of the original edition (preface dated 1848) of the famous and copiously illustrated botanical encyclopaedia. 1,714 plants are described and illustrated in the 'Tukao' (the first 41 volumes) and, in the subsequent 'Changbian', relevant materials, quotations and references from all branches of Chinese literature are collected.
Many of the plants illustrated and discussed were (and are) used in the preparation of traditional Chinese medicines and this work is thus a valuable pharmacopoeia and research reference still of much relevance today in the search for new medicines from natural sources.
Copiously illustrated with black-and-white woodcut illustrations. All text in Chinese.
