Teichman, Eric: TRAVELS OF A CONSULAR OFFICER IN NORTH-WEST CHINA. Cambridge, 1921. xiv, 219 pp. Frontispiece plus 58 pp. b/w photographic plates hors texte. 2 maps in text, 2 folding maps in back pocket. 25x17 cm. Cloth.
A subtitle on the title page continues: 'With original maps of Shensi and Kansu and illustrated by photographs taken by the author'. Teichman journeyed from Guanyintang in Henan province to Xi'an and then through much of Shensi (Shaanxi) province and into Kansu (Gansu) to the provincial capital of Lanzhou. He then travelled south to Kokonor and the Labrang monastery before going back to Lanzhou and then returning home via Ningxia and Baotou in Inner Mongolia. A famous account, well-illustrated with interesting black-and-white photographs of people and places. A good solid copy. The two maps in fine condition with just one small crease at one edge and one nick to the margin of the Kansu map. A few minor marks to the red cloth covers.
