Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Shenzhen Museum showing a total of 55 extremely fine examples of Buddhist sculpture and statuary in stone and gilt-bronze. The majority of the exhibits come from archaeological sites in Shanxi (place of excavation is given) rather than the Buddhist caves in the province. Divided into two sections: 'Featuring Style of the Northern Dynasties' which shows 32 exhibits dating from the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Northern Qi and Northern Zhou dynasties. The second section 'Unusual Demeanour of the Sui and Tang Dynasties' has 23 examples: 9 Sui, 13 Tang and 1 Five Dynasties. Illustrated throughout in colour, many in multiple views or showing close-up detail. Foreword, list of contents and plates, brief introductions to each section and brief captions in English.
