Catalogue of an exhibition at the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace. Explores the story of three centuries of British royal contact with Japan from 1603-1937 where the exchange of exquisite works of art was central to both diplomatic relations and cultural contact. Essays trace chronologically the growth and acquisition of Japanese art in the Royal Collection. These are accompanied by sections on various types of Japanese art; porcelain, lacquer, arms and armour, metalwork etc. All illustrated in colour and well described. A very pleasing work filled with many splendid and lovely objects, a good number previously unpublished.
