National Palace Museum: JIN CHENG XU YANG: QING YONGZHENG FALANG CAI CI. Porcelain with Painted Enamels of Qing Yongzheng Period (1723-1735). Taibei, 2013. 359 pp. Colour plates throughout. Numerous small colour text illustrations. 30x21 cm. Wrappers.
Catalogue of a marvellous and focussed exhibition at the National Palace Museum in Taibei showing 92 superb examples of Qing dynasty Yongzheng imperial ceramics with painted enamel decoration. Such porcelains were the creme-de-la-creme of the Yongzheng reign. The 92 exhibits include numerous pairs of bowls and dishes and there are thus a total of 176 pieces in the exhibition. All illustrated in excellent colour plates, the majority in multiple views and showing close-up detail. Base marks shown. The catalogue is also of much interest in that it explores the management of the Imperial Workshops under the Yongzheng reign and delves in to Qing dynasty archival records of the period pertaining to the manufacture of these ceramics. Useful four page preface and captions to plates in English. Main text in Chinese.
