Facsimile reprint (with new introduction) of the London 1681 original. The first book in English to be written on Ceylon. Knox was a sailor with the East India Company and was captured by the King of Kandy in 1660 and detailed for nearly 20 years in the interior of Ceylon. Published after his escape, it gives an interesting account of the Kingdom and the life and trade of the island in the 17th century. It is also said to have been an inspiration for the writing of Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. Illustrated with reproductions of engravings from the original edition and with the folding map showing the Kingdom of Kandy in good condition.
