The Yi-yu-lu or 'Description of Border Countries' was written by Tulisen, a Manchu official, and appeared both in Chinese and Manchu. It relates the journey in 1712 of Tulisen and colleagues from Peking via Mongolia and Russia to the Turgut Khan north of the Caspian Sea to deliver a message from the Kangxi Emperor. This is an annotated translation in Japanese, of this early (18th century) diplomatic mission report. Reprints Manchu and Chinese texts. Eleven pages of explanatory notes in English.
