Hunan Provincial Museum: HUNAN SONG YUAN YAOCANG JINYINQI FAXIAN YU YANJIU. The Discovery and Research on Gold and Silver Wares Unearthed from Caches of Song and Yuan Dynasties in Hunan. Beijing, 2009. 394 pp. 198 pp. colour plates throughout. B/w text plates. 29x22 cm. Boards.
Excellent visual and research reference on Song and Yuan gold and silver. 610 gold and silver objects of fine quality are illustrated in colour with the majority being shown in multiple views. The objects range from hairpins, spoons and hair ornaments to ingots, boxes, incised belt plaques, bracelets, trays, belt ornaments, filigree work and drinking cups. A huge variety. The wares were excavated from sites throughout China's Hunan province. There is still little published that focuses exclusively on gold and silver from this period and this is a welcome addition. Text in Chinese. Recommended.
