Large and weighty two-volume catalogue of a very fine exhibition at the Gugong Palace Museum in Beijing showing 'qinglu' landscape paintings, namely those done in a blue-and-green palette. The first volume shows paintings dating from the Jin dynasty through the Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties. It opens with a selection of reproductions of 'qinglu' landscape murals from the Dunhuang caves and is then followed by a superb selection of early qinglu paintings dating through to the Yuan dynasty. A total of 23 exhibits. The second volume shows 63 extremely fine Ming, Qing and 20th century examples. Grand total of 86 exhibits. A wonderful selection of paintings, handscrolls and albums, all from the collection of the Gugong Palace Museum in Beijing. All illustrated in colour, in full and many in multiple views and showing close-up detail. Text in Chinese. An excellent reference and addition to the literature on this aspect of Chinese painting.
