Well-illustrated work commemorating the memorable exhibition at the Forbidden City in Beijing exploring the extraordinary artistic achievements during the Yongle and Xuande reigns of the early Ming dynasty. Shows, in large colour plates, 150 superb objects in various media selected from the holdings of the Gugong Museum plus 13 objects borrowed from other museums in China. Divided into sections on: Painting and Calligraphy, Jades, Gold Wares, Porcelain, Lacquer, Buddhist Statues, Cloisonne and Xuande Censers (includes a number of later copies). Some objects are shown in multiple views and basemarks are shown where relevant. The catalogue to this exhibition went immediately out-of-print so this work is welcome.
