Guangdong Provincial Museum ed: FUHAO MU YUQI. Jade from the Tomb of Fu Hao. Guangzhou, 2016. 2, 1, 379 pp. Colour plates throughout. 29x21 cm. Wrappers.
Catalogue of a major exhibition of ancient Chinese jades from the Shang dynasty held at the Guangdong Provincial Museum in Guangzhou in 2016. This is the same exhibition as was held earlier at the Capital Museum in Beijing and for which no catalogue seems to have been produced. Lady Fu Hao was a heroine of ancient China being the wife of a pre-eminent Shang king, Wu Ding, and herself famous as a politician, military leader and shaman. The sheer number of jades found in her tomb at Anyang reflect the wealth of the time and her pre-eminence. A large number are illustrated in colour. The majority of the jades were very small and are here enlarged in reproduction to show full and intricate detail. All text in Chinese. Very hard to obtain.
