Reprint of an early authoritative account of the archaeology and material culture of the ancient Japanese treasure house, the Shoso-in, which, amongst much else, houses early and rare Chinese artefacts, in particular, from the Tang dynasty. First published in 1941. This new reprint edition has updated introductions and, it appears, recent colour photography of the superb and rare Tang objects. Provides us with the best-preserved examples of the high culture of the Tang dynasty. Includes textiles, musical instruments, objects inlaid with mother-of-pearl, glass and gold and silver vessels.
