A total of six volumes, each with a number of lengthy articles comprising early and interesting English research into the culture of Asia. Each volume contains a number of full page black-and-white engravings, a few folding. A selection of titles of engravings from the various volumes include: Oriental Zodiac; Hindu Lunar Mansions; Hindu Elliptic; Map of Misra-sthan or Gupta-sthan; A Village at Nancourry; The Yak of Tartary ... or Bushy-Tailed Bull of Tibet; View of the Volcano on Barren Island; Plan of the Grand Temple, Keylas; Chart of the River Ganges from Colgong to Hurrisonker (a long folding map with colour).
Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 are bound uniformly in the contemporary full mottled leather. Volume 7 is bound in a very similar style but is nonuniform with the others.
Front covers to volumes 1, 2 and 4 detached. Covers to some other volumes slightly loose. Loss to top sixth of spine of volume 7. Other minor wear to covers commensurate with age.
Internally, generally fine, some foxing. Rare.
